If you don’t own your own skis, poles, snowboard, boots or helmet, you can hire them as part of your ski holiday package or arrange rental when you arrive at your resort.
Pre-book your ski or snowboard hire
Booking your ski hire as part of your package is a great way of saving time and effort, and you’ll often find ski or snowboard hire offers to help you save money on the cost of your holiday. The price of ski hire varies depending on the level of equipment you need, but as a guideline ski and boot hire tends to cost approximately £100. Ski hire options and levels
From beginner skiers or snowboarders all the way up to seasoned experts, there’s a ski or snowboard hire ideally suited to your level.
At the economy end of the scale, beginner-level skis or snowboards allow learners to experience the thrill of the slopes without the latest hi-tech features. Edges should be nice and sharp, and bindings tight, but overall the kit might be a few seasons old and not in top quality condition.
Mid-range ski or snowboard equipment might be one or two years old, and aimed at beginner or intermediate-level skiers and boarders looking to develop their skills. You can expect high-performance kit for both park and off-piste, with costs aimed at those looking to save money on equipment rental.
Premium ski or snowboard hire is aimed at intermediate-to-advanced level skiers and snowboarders, with newer equipment and higher spec. At this rental level, you can also expect to choose exactly what kind of skis or board you’d like – on-piste, carving, freeride, freestyle etc.
At the top end of the ski or snowboard hire scale, advanced and expert skiers and boarders can choose from a further range of specific equipment offering the latest technologies. You’ll find wider and longer skis designed for bouncing though fresh powder, stiffer race skis designed for high speeds, and more – all recently released onto the market that year.
Switching rental equipment
Once you reach the slopes with your rental equipment, you might find your kit doesn’t quite fit correctly. Perhaps it felt snug in the hire shop, but out on the snow things are different. If your equipment isn't comfortable or you think that a different level would be more suitable, you’ll find the majority of rental outlets are perfectly happy to make adjustments or change your equipment. It’s worth asking about this when hiring your kit, just to be on the safe side.
