On a ski holiday, your lift pass is the ticket which lets you through the barriers at the base of all the chairlifts and gondolas on the mountain. When you start your first day on the slopes, pop your lift pass in your jacket or salopettes outer pocket, and beep your way through the gate.
Buying your lift pass
There are many ways to buy your lift pass. You can buy it online through your ski resort’s lift pass office, or you can go to the lift pass office at the very start of your ski holiday and buy it there.
Alternatively, you can book your lift pass as part of your ski holiday package through our dedicated after sales team – who will have the operator deliver your lift pass to your accommodation when you arrive. Doing it this way can save a lot of time and effort, and allows you to reach the slopes and start skiing straight away on your first morning.
Lift pass prices
Prices on lift passes vary hugely. Different resorts have different lift pass prices, depending on their popularity or the size of their ski area. There are also passes of different durations, from half a day or 1-day through to 1-week or even full-season lift passes. You can find local area or full area lift passes, which offer access to different lifts in your ski resort of choice. Kids and adults are charged different lift pass prices, and there are also group lift pass prices and family lift pass prices for parents taking their kids on the snow. Sometimes, lift pass prices vary depending on the time of year you ski – with early-season and late-season lift passes being cheaper, for example, than the busy festive period.
It all sounds a little confusing, but as a general rule of thumb an adult 1-week full-area lift pass might cost you in the region of £250. Children under 5 years can ski for free in a huge range of ski resorts, and there are also discounts available for children up to 13 years and adults over 65 years. The Meribel lift pass website is a great place to have a closer look at a few of the lift pass options available.
Discounted lift passes and lift pass offers
Throughout the winter ski season, tour operators and chalet companies run lift pass offers and discounts to encourage bookings and help eagle-eyed skiers and snowboarders save money on the slopes. Examples include buy-one-get-one-free (BOGOF) or buy-one-get-one-half-price (BOGOHP) lift passes, and free lift passes for the group leader. Sometimes, you might even find a deal which includes free lift passes for the whole group in a booking!
To make the most of the offers available, make sure to mention your lift pass preferences during the enquiry stage. If you add on your lift passes at the time of booking, you can ensure you won’t miss out when offer expires.
The best way to find lift pass offers for your group or family ski holiday is to remain flexible on your date of travel and your ski resort choices. If you’re locked into a certain departure date and you’re fixed on one specific alpine destination, you’ll need a stroke of luck to find a lift pass offer to match your accommodation choice. On the other hand if you’re able to stay flexible, we can recommend certain chalets or hotels in specific resorts over various weeks of travel where lift pass offers can save you money.
