Sauze d’Oulx is home to wide open slopes and arguably the best mountain nightlife in Italy. Better yet, the atmosphere in resort is cheerful, and the prices are generally quite low when compared to the top French and Swiss destinations.
There are good road and rail links with Turin airport, which is approximately 1.5 hours away. One can also catch the train from St Pancras to the nearby station of Oulx with a change in Paris. Within the town itself, you can walk between amenities with ease, or make use of the free bus service.
Sauze d’Oulx has a great extensive ski area as well as lively apres ski and a good range of restaurants on and off the mountain. However the resort is underrated and therefore good value so it makes a good choice during peak weeks as prices are a little more reasonable compared to other resorts.
Sauze d’Oulx sits at relatively high altitude so has a good snow record throughout the season.
Similarly to the other resorts in Italy, there aren’t many chalets in Sauze d’Oulx with the majority of accommodation being hotels and apartments.
Sauze d’Oulx is located within the Milky Way, comprising of 400km of pistes linking Italy and France. THe resorts are well linked by piste but there isn’t efficient bus system so the quickest way to get between the resorts if you are travelling by road will be to get a taxi.
Whether you’re after a quiet snifter or a more vibrant venue, Sauze d’Oulx has some wonderful establishments to enjoy.
For a peaceful drink after a long day on the slopes, the upmarket Il Lampione in the old town is the place to go – they have a laid-back ambiance and an excellent selection of beers and wines. The Scotch bar in the hotel Stella Alpina is also a great bet!
Sauze d’Oulx has a brilliant variety of restaurants. Visitors can experience everything from traditional Italian pizzas to perfectly cooked steaks.
Del Falco is widely regarded as one of the best places in town, with excellent wine and cuisine. Another top-tier choice is L'Ortiche, a fine dining restaurant that prides itself on quality and freshness.

Sauze d’Oulx isn’t the best place for non-skiing activities, but there are some lovely pastimes to shake things up.
There are a few nice shops in town to browse, and some of the hotels house spas and wellness amenities open to the general public. There’s also a sports hall for anyone who fancies working up a bit more of a sweat.

All three schools offer both group and private lessons. Group lessons are more sociable and will but are less intense than privates.

Sauze d’Oulx doesn’t host quite as much in the way of childcare facilities compared to other resorts. That said, there is a top-notch crèche in town and ski schools for helping the little ones make their first turns on the snow.
La Libellula crèche is ideally located at the foot of the slopes in Sauze d’Oulx and offers excellent childcare in English and Italian. The experienced staff treat kids to games, toys, painting, drawing and other activities to keep them entertained.
Weather permitting, they have a natural playground outside where children can build snowmen, snow castles and go tobogganing.
The ski domain is quite extensive with around 300km of pistes, not to mention easy links to another 100km of terrain over in the Milky Way ski area. In particular, Sauze offers a bounty of slopes perfect for intermediate skiers. Beginners and seasoned experts won’t find as much to love here, but the resort still has plenty of virtues.
