Set in a wide, remote valley near the Italian-Swiss border, Livigno offers a winning combination of high altitude, good extent and great-value prices. Visitors can enjoy some 110km of slopes, with a particular bounty of beginner and intermediate runs. The village itself is spread out over 4km with a main street lined by hotels, bars and shops, as well as a car-free pedestrian area in the centre – a definite plus for families.
Holidaymakers interested in Livigno can fly with a number of low-cost airlines to places like Milan, Zurich, Munich or Innsbruck. Transfer times vary from approximately 3.5 hours (Zurich) to 2.5 hours (Innsbruck). Within the resort itself, there is a free bus service that runs until roughly 8pm, however it can get quite busy during peak times.
The après-ski scene in Livigno is decently lively, with a few great bars in town and at the foot of the gondolas.
The Tea del Vidal is arguably the number 1 après venue in town, with good music and a wonderful umbrella bar. The Stalet, located at the foot of the gondola Carosello 3000, is another great place for dancing and après-ski revelry, and live music bar Bivio is the place to go when you want to party until the wee hours.
For a more laid back beverage, Pub 1816 – the highest brewery in Europe – offers a chilled out atmosphere and good food to boot! Ypioca, meanwhile, is a great place to sit and enjoy a range of cocktails.
Livigno is home to a good range of restaurants, from fine dining to great-value pizzas.

For couples in search of something special, the Michelin starred Chalet Ristorante Mattias does a spectacular seven-course gourmet menu – you really must book ahead for this small venue, however.
If you have a hungry gang of mates on your hands, Bait Dal Ghet plates up large, great-value pizzas, and they leave shots on the table at the end.

Aside from plenty of pistes, Livigno offers an excellent range of non-skiing activities.
Mountaineering and ice climbing are popular choices, as are ice skating and dog sledding – they are winter holiday staples after all.
Other top choices range from paragliding and snowmobiling to ice driving and horse riding. There really is no shortage of ways to entertain yourself!
There are also a number of more relaxed activities in town for those seeking something more sedate, such as browsing the numerous shops along the main street and the Aquagranda wellness suite with thermal baths, fitness centre and pools.
A trip to the tourist office will offer lots of useful information on resort activities, but here is some info to get you started.

Livigno is home to a number of brilliant ski schools that take kids from 5-years-old, and there are some excellent facilities in town for the younger ones.
Kinderclub Daù, located at the base of lift 23, takes children from 3-years-old. They offer packages that include meals and ski school.
There’s also the Kinder Club Lupigno, also known as the children’s winter wonderland, which provides games, inflatables, a tube track and adventure paths. The Kid’s Club here is staffed by highly qualified individuals to give parents perfect peace of mind.
While skiers of all levels will find something to like here, the resort caters more specifically to beginners and intermediates with great cruisy pistes and not too much in the way challenging runs. Cross country skiers will also have a great time, with some 40km of cross-country trails to explore, as will freestylers: the resort has six (that’s right, six!) terrain parks. These include two large parks, three aimed more at eager novices and one Woodpark.
