Risoul and Vars are part of La Foret Blanche, the largest ski area in the Southern French Alps which boasts a good snow record and a marvellous sunshine record. Risoul is a compact resort, with many traditional chalet-style buildings. Vars is larger with a good range of amenities. Both resorts are purpose built yet are still attractive and have lovely woodland settings and have a genuine French atmosphere.
The ski area is great for mixed ability groups with some wide open sunny nursery slopes for the beginners and some more challenging reds and blacks for the more intermediate skiier. For the advanced it is a bit more limited however even the more seasoned skier will find the mogul fields and off piste a challenge.

The resorts of Vars and Risoul are good value destinations for family ski holidays. There are a few things to keep the children entertained off the slopes, but little choice when it comes to childcare facilities.
Ice Skating
Ice skating is a must do activity on any ski trip and both Vars and Risoul have their own outdoor skating rinks. Open every day and evening and on Thursday nights during the school holidays they even have an Ice Party, where the music is cranked and the disco lights glisten. Each year a team of sculptors shape the snow into a huge igloo which makes a great play ground for young children. Exploring the caverns and learning about the lives of Inuit’s makes it a fun and interactive experience!
In Risoul the ‘4 Seasons’ ice rink is suitable for children aged 7 years and above.
Library
If the bad weather sets in and you want to snuggle up with a book, head to the library in Vars. They have a dedicated children’s area and are open on Mondays (14.00-16.00), Wednesdays (16.00-18.30) and Fridays (09.30-11.30).
Childcare
If your children are too young to join you on the slopes, you can book them into the ESF crèche. ESF are happy to take children from 2 years of age and will keep them entertained all day with a mixture of ski play and indoor activities. Take a look at their website for the latest prices and times www.esf-vars.com/CoursEnfants.php
