Five top snow-sure ski resorts in Europe

Whether you’re craving a snowy Easter ski trip or planning a Christmas holiday in the Alps for next season, you’ll want to consider these snow-sure resorts.

Below, we’re featuring five of our favourite high-altitude destinations where the snow stays in excellent condition all season long. You’ll find a nice blend of child-friendly choices alongside options for more experienced skiers.

Val d’Isère / Tignes

Between them, Val d’Isère and neighbouring Tignes offer some 300km of pistes to explore, with two glaciers and lifts running as high as 3,450m.

The resorts are characteristically quite different, with Val d’Isère featuring more traditional chalets and Tignes providing more modern ski in/ski out apartments. However, what they have in common is excellent ski schools, lively bars and plenty of snow-sure terrain – including brilliant off-piste.

Val Thorens

Boasting a base-altitude of 2,300m, Val Thorens is the highest ski resort in Europe and has some of the most snow-sure slopes around.

Like Tignes, it has a wealth of ski in/ski out properties for those who love to click in and go. It’s also home to swift lifts, terrain for all levels and the largest nightclub in the Alps: Le Malaysia.

La Plagne

A fantastic choice for families, La Plagne is not only high and snow-sure, it has plenty of accommodation options with in-house childcare and ski in/ski out access.

On the mountain, you’ll find great nursery slopes, plenty of cruisy blue runs for building confidence and exciting off-piste for more advanced skiers and snowboarders. And you can always catch the Vanoise Express cable car to Les Arcs for even more variety.

Zermatt / Cervinia

Though they both sit beneath the magnificent Matterhorn, the lift-linked, snow-sure resorts of Zermatt and Cervinia offer two very different experiences.

The Swiss resort of Zermatt is where you go to indulge in stunning luxury chalets, Michelin-starred restaurants and challenging terrain. Over the border into Italy, Cervinia presents more child-friendly slopes and affordable prices – but with equally inspiring views.

Snow-sure slopes and breathtaking views: just two reasons to visit Zermatt.

Obergurgl

Another hit with families, the ski town of Obergurgl is famous for quiet slopes that are great for kids.

With high-altitude, north-facing pistes, the snow stays in excellent condition throughout the resort’s long season. Better yet, the village itself is very peaceful and features diverse accommodation options.
