Apres

In true Austrian fashion the après-ski action starts on the slopes in the afternoon. Popular places include the Lurzer Alm which is centrally situated at the base of the slopes and the Der Turm which is a rustic, round bar located in front of the Hotel Schneider. The top apres-ski party is undoubtedly the Edelweiss Alm. Sitting adjacent to the Edelweiss lift at 1850, the bar’s large outdoor terrace is bustling with loud DJ music, drinking and dancing until late into the night.
If you’re looking for a lively spot in the village head to the stylish Mund Werk, which is renowned for its great cuisine and bar and turns into a nightclub at midnight. This place makes the perfect start to a big night out before heading to Monkey’s Heaven. The party doesn’t stop in Monkey’s heaven until the early hours and often hosts themed nights.

Eating out

On the mountain there are plenty of cosy mountain huts to grab a hearty lunch at and among the best are the Edelweissalm, the Hochalm and the Achenrainhutte.
The purpose built resort has been designed to cater for all tastes. There is a wide range of Austrian restaurants such as the rustic Supp’n Platzl, which offers a friendly service and homemade recipes or the Restaurant Austria.
As well as over 40 restaurants and cafes, a lot of the best dining can be found in the hotels. The Enzian Hotel is extremely popular with both guests and locals and famed for its exclusive wine list.
However, if you’re looking for familiarity or a break from the rich local dishes, head to the Taverne complex which houses a family friendly pizzeria.

Activities

Obertauern offers a wide range of non-skiing activities such as horse-drawn sleigh rides, snow shoeing and cross country skiing. Off the snow there is a well-equipped Olympic leisure centre and many cafes, bars and local shops in the village.
On the mountain, Obertauern boasts 18km of cleared winter hiking trails and 26km of Cross country skiing tracks. A great way to enjoy the beauty of the snowy Alpine landscape is on horse-drawn sleigh ride. The ride lasts an hour and originates in the Gnadenalm and takes you to Hintergnadenalm, along the stream on the other side of the valley.
The Olympic Centre offers a range of indoor sports across its three bowling alleys, two tennis courts and badminton court. Equipment hire is available in the complex and there is also a high quality massage and fitness centre.
