Grindelwald is linked with the popular resort of Wengen and offers equally stunning views of the Eiger, but it isn’t a great option for families. You need to get on a cog railway up the mountain rather than simply driving to your chalet, which means a bit of a trek at the start and end of your holiday. Queues for the gondolas can be quite irritating in the morning and by the afternoon the snow quality is often poor due to its sunny location and low altitude of 1035m. The slopes back to the resort are also often busy with racers and tobogganners too, which can be a bit intimidating!

That said, there is a good Kids Club in the Bodmi area in the middle of town which is open throughout the season and takes children from the ages of 3 and over and introduces them to the slopes through a mixture of play and lessons. Kids club is available for mornings, afternoons or whole days including lunch with prices starting at CHF18 for an hour or CHF89 for a day with lunch included.

Night skiing is also available on the runs above the snow club on Tuesday and Friday night from 7pm-10pm. There is a special children’s ski school with small group sizes of between four and eight which offers half day lessons between 10:00 and midday for CHF199 for five days.

Off the slopes there is a good variety of activities for children including the ever popular ‘velogemel’ which is a wooden snow bike that has been in use around the Jungfrau for over 100 years! You can rent them from various place around the town but they are really only suitable for older children!

There is an indoor, artificial ice rink available throughout the year which offers curling lessons as well as the chance to try your hand at figure skating or ice hockey.

If you want some traditional fun on the slopes without getting your ski boots on then why not try out some of the 100kms of piste that are dotted throughout the Jungfrau region?
