Take Your New Year’s Resolutions to the Snow this Winter

The turkey is finished, the presents are unwrapped, and Christmas is over and done with for another year. Now it’s time for New Year’s celebrations! While you consider what promises and goals to set yourself for 2019, here’s a little inspiration on how to take your New Year’s resolutions to the Alps on a ski holiday this winter.

Learn something new

The New Year is all about trying new things, so why not give skiing or snowboarding a go? With the right tuition and a little practise, 2017 could be the year you take to the Alps!

If you’re considering diving in the deep end with a ski holiday on the slopes, consider learner-friendly resorts such as Obergurgle, Morzine, La Rosière or Saalbach-Hinterglem. You’ll find a few more beginner-friendly ski resort suggestions here, on our sister website.

On the other hand, if you’re not quite ready to head straight to the mountains but you are keen to give skiing a go, you might prefer to look a little closer to home for your first snow-fix. Perhaps give one of the UK’s indoor snow centres a try and see if you like it.

Get fit and healthy

Improving fitness tops the New Year’s resolution list for many people, and the good news is that skiing is a great way to keep fit and stay healthy. Pre-trip exercises will get you pumped for the slopes, and just think of all the calories you burn carving up the snow all day long. Maybe steer clear of that temptingly cheesy fondue, though?

See more of the world

Across the Alps, Austrian ski resorts like Alpbach and Kitzbuhel, Swiss destinations such as Adelboden and Saas Fee, or Megève and Val d’Isère in France offer chocolate-box chalets with spectacular valley views. Whether you’re a first-timer to the Alps or a seasoned expert, you can’t help but be blown away by the views.

Looking a little further afield, resorts across Canada and the US such as Whistler Blackcombe, Sun Peaks, Banff or Aspen offer a completely different feel to their European counterparts. If more world travel is on your New Year’s resolution list, the possibilities in the world of snow-sports are seemingly endless.
