The 'Arctic Man' race. Self preservationists need not apply. (2015-04-27 18:38:07)

Exploring the weird and wonderful world of niche American ski races, one thing becomes completely clear of our well meaning, star spangled, quirky relatives over the pond – Adding engines to stuff with WILD ABANDON, even ski races, makes everything better; I give you ‘Arctic Man’. It all started as a bet between 2 groups of skiers and snowmobilers in a quiet Fairbanks bar 30 years ago. The hosting of the 2007 US Alpine Championships in Alyeska, Alaska, transformed this small-town quirky ski race into a competition of international acclaim. So then, the race itself, in a nutshell, is about speed and a total disregard for even slight self-preservation, and NOTHING else.

One of the Best Family Holidays We've Had! (2015-04-27 09:50:54)

We used Interactive Resorts to organise our ski trip last year and were impressed with the efficiency, helpfulness, online tools and above all the personal attention on offer.  So it came to pass that I used them again to organise this year’s trip, and spoke to Jim Lockett who upheld the values previously experienced!

Roller Skiing is no Disco. (2015-04-20 15:33:47)

Pre and post season fitness is always a concern for avid proponents of cross country and Nordic skiing; anyone whose definition of ‘physical activity’ encapsulates more than pottering to and from boozy lunches, and table top dancing at the après bar. Originating around the 1950s when cross country skiing began to evolve into a competitive sport, the need for summer training became a concern until the concept of the roller ski was born. It became an established competitive sport in its own right during the 1970s, and today is popular across Western Europe, Canada and North America... But not Britain; perhaps it’s the lycra and silly helmets that put us off. National ski teams still use roller skis for their pre season training.

The Copelands go big in Val Thorens (2015-04-17 16:13:45)

Up at 3.00am on a Sunday morning for a 5.00am rendezvous with the whole group of ten people at Gatwick South terminal. A five man stag do of the previous year but this time tempered and enhanced by WAGS and girl chums.

Powder Mountain: Ski Resort of the Future (2015-04-15 11:26:36)

Powder Mountain is not a particularly well known ski resort; it has a 7000 acre ski area, seven lifts, a Mexican restaurant, a base lodge and no snow making facilities. All that looks set to change in the very near future with new investors looking to expand the village from a backwater to, well, a resort.  Not just any resort either.

New Year Skiing in Meribel Mottaret (2015-04-13 16:12:45)

With just a few weeks left of winter 2014/15, we here at Interactive Resorts HQ have begun to cast our minds ahead to peak-date holidays for the 2015/16 ski season. It’s always been the case that when it comes to Christmas and New Year skiing, the early bird catches the worm - and we don’t foresee that changing any time soon! We’re focusing today on small groups of friends hoping to hit the slopes together, and we’ve selected the 6-bed chalet Andre in the ski in/out village of Meribel Mottaret, in France’s Three Valleys ski area.

New Year Merriment in Morzine (2015-04-13 09:56:09)

Our much-anticipated week of fun in the French Alps didn’t get off to the most auspicious start, with a somewhat delayed departure from Gatwick, albeit shorter than originally feared. After numerous caffeine shots at Costa to counteract an early start, and having tracked down a wandering 12-year-old, we were off!

Hitting Speeds of 62.4mph in Courchevel (2015-04-09 15:23:40)

By Phil After recently travelling to Courchevel 1850 with Interactive Resorts/Mark Warner and staying in Le Dahu, I can’t thank Interactive Resorts enough for the hassle-free service that they gave; nothing was too much trouble from start to finish. I also have no idea how Jade at Interactive Resorts put up with our indecisiveness prior to making the booking.

Skiing’s top 5 Hardest Endurance Events (2015-04-08 13:07:41)

Sucker for punishment, maniacal about masochism or delighted by difficulty? This selection of ski-borne suffer-fests, some balancing precariously on the brink of possibility, is especially for you. 5.

Snow-Lovers Take Note: Geneva Airport Set to Expand (2015-04-01 12:35:20)

With rising passenger numbers and a distinct lack of space, Geneva Airport was in dire need of an overhaul. Providing access to ski resorts within France, Italy and Switzerland, the airport has grown considerably since it was built in 1968, with the biggest changes occurring over the last few years.

La Plagne: Why We're Going Back Next Year (2015-04-01 10:35:22)

-By Rob Booking a holiday online still feels like a risk, in comparison to the days when you left the travel agent who had provided you with the physical evidence of your custom. As a father of a six year old, I can not afford for this to go wrong and with some trepidation I booked through a firm that I had not heard of before, but whom seemed professional both online and in the brief phone conversation I had with them.

Yoga: the ski jitters cure all you've been waiting for (2015-03-30 17:14:17)

Those of us who don’t have the luxury of heading out to the slopes for months at a time each year (and really, how many of us do?) will be very much aware of the painful first few days on the mountain that we standardly call ‘getting your ski legs back’.  It’s the leg ache that has you waddling like John Wayne, the back that twinges when you get into position, and unfortunately it lasts most of the week.  Well, you’ll be delighted to discover that despite all those recommendations for squats and lunges flying around, it turns out that all you really need to do to prepare for the season ahead is take up yoga. Not only does everybody’s favourite wonder activity make you infinitely more flexible, but it also gives you a hefty fitness boost for skiing. Yoga photo credit Fecundo Collar Lopez The concentration in breathing, holding a pose and how to rest is great for core strength, something that come in very handy when it comes to the ski slopes.

High Altitude Adventure in Les Deux Alpes (2015-03-30 16:44:32)

I was the lead organiser of a group of 8 who stayed in Chalet Bouton D’or in Les Deux Alpes last week. We had a fantastic week, with 5 days of skiing in glorious sunshine followed by one in heavy snow.

Sun and Snow in Les Menuires (2015-03-27 13:33:20)

It has to be said, I’m not a natural skier, but with the peer pressure of 15 friends and an absolute steal of a deal, there was no way I was missing out on our gang’s ski-trip this year. And what a trip it was… Our chalet was comfy, cosy and just a hop, skip and a skid from the piste. Greeted with big smiles by our lovely chalet hosts, Gemma and Caroline, we were spoilt all week with the best breakfasts, cakes and dinner, not to mention the sauna and hot tub.

Top 5 French Ski resorts with ski-in ski-out access (2015-03-26 10:01:55)

French resorts are the undeniable kings in the hunt for ski-in ski-out convenience. They might not be all that pretty <cough!

New Year in Val d'Isere (2015-03-25 12:19:48)

-By Sarah We celebrated last New Year in Val d'Isere – the perfect way to begin the year! The holiday began with an eventful journey involving a very bumpy (and second-time lucky) landing at Chamonix, followed by a five-hour journey up the mountain to Val due to snow on the road. However the staff at Fish n' Pips were great, keeping in touch by phone and providing supper for us when we eventually reached the resort. We stayed at chalet Santons, a gorgeous apartment with lovely bedrooms and bathrooms, and a large cosy living room.

Ischgl, a Perfect Place to Ski and Party Hard (2015-03-23 12:38:32)

This was a much awaited reunion of family and friends who had been on a trip together some 15 years before in Ellmau, Austria. A mixed generation group of 9, we ranged in age from early 20s to mid 50s.

Few Words Released for Free on You Tube (2015-03-23 12:01:47)

French freestyle skier Candide Thovex has been opening eyes, dropping jaws and setting tongues wagging since he burst onto the scene in the late nineties, signing with Quicksilver and taking gold in international competitions across the globe. The skiers-eye-view footage he releases on You Tube from time to time demonstrates his natural talent to perfection, and his new videos always go viral when uploaded online.

Dawn of the Modular Shell Ski Boot (2015-03-20 16:36:10)

Technology and ski builds are forever in a state of flux. What makes a ski ‘the best’ is not the same today as it was two years ago, let alone ten!

La Plagne: An Intermediate's Paradise (2015-03-17 16:54:44)

The Paradiski area is known as an intermediate’s paradise and La Plagne certainly lived up to that reputation. The ski area was unanimously named as one of the best the four of us had ever skied, with an enormous range of blue and red runs ideal for the improving intermediate.

A Wonderful Week in Val d’Isere (2015-03-16 14:53:25)

Our recent ski holiday was to the French ski resort of Val D'Isere - in the Espace Killy area - and we were lucky enough to actually be staying in a chalet that was originally owned by the Killy family. This gave it incredible character, with personal photos and touches dotted all around the chalet.

Urban Regeneration Sweeps from Northampton to the Alps (2015-03-16 14:35:54)

Anybody who has ever taken a spin through Milton Keynes knows that the 1970s was a pretty bleak decade in the architectural fashions game. Huge, monolithic blocks of concrete were widely considered the height of on-trend construction, and from car parks to hospitals, bus stations to blocks of flats, it seemed a case of ‘the blander the better.’ The recent demolition of the Greyfriars bus station in Northampton, however, is the biggest sign yet that modern town planners are finally looking elsewhere for inspiration.

Top 5 Avalanche Near-Misses on YouTube (2015-03-13 12:37:41)

The dramatic rescue of an Australian skier who was buried in an avalanche in Les Crosets recently was all caught on a friend’s GoPro camera. The lucky skier thought he was doomed and uploaded the video to raise awareness of the dangers of avalanches while skiing off-piste.

Being Retired Means One Thing: Skiing Whenever You Like (2015-03-13 12:04:59)

By Stefan Being retired from work I have the opportunity to do what I like most - skiing whenever I like. This year I went back to fantastic Meribel with my wife.

The World Ski Awards. The awards you weren’t aware existed, and certainly hadn’t considered when booking your holiday.

Skiers Stranded in Cable Car (2015-03-06 16:44:16)

Picture the scene... you’re gracefully gliding up the slopes in your gondola to enjoy a couple of final runs before heading home for a well-earned drink, when suddenly your gondola stops and begins swinging in the breeze, leaving you stranded. It’s the stuff of nightmares and it happened recently to upwards of 200 skiers in Val Gardena, in the Dolomites, Italy.

Say good bye to flats! The dawn of jet powered snow sports. (2015-03-02 17:53:03)

The German vocabulary fantastically encapsulates my feelings towards flat sections of piste in one simple word... ‘Schadenfreude’ Schadenfreude - meaning “to take pleasure in another’s misfortune”, really comes into its own - especially being a winter biathlete and cross country skiing enthusiast - at the sight of hordes of boarders (and skiers not naturally blessed with cardio or skating ability), when they approach a MASSIVE flat <cue Dr.Evil laugh!>.

The Ski Resorts that time forgot (2015-02-27 17:30:40)

Abandoned ski resorts- Whether it’s disgruntled zombies of particular political leanings, or a resort with a distinct Nicholson-esque hotel in it. Horror movie directors have a positive ‘mountain’ (hur, hur!) of locations to choose from the world over, with places like Colorado playing host to over 175 derelict resorts!

The Beginners Guide to Ski Slang (2015-02-24 16:47:35)

Skiing is a sport that comes with a confusing lexicon of terms that have little to no immediate connection to whatever it is you are actually doing at any one moment. After all, what is a jibber?

The famous Folie Douce tones down its piste-side parties (2015-02-20 11:31:31)

Legendary French après bar the Folie Douce is set to tone down its parties, it has been reported this week. As a result of extreme drunkenness at some of the parties held over the last few weeks, the famous après joint will no longer be allowed to host events even so much as implying the presence of guest DJs. Piste-side raves at the Folie Douce have long since become a staple in resorts across the French Alps, with the presence of gently swaying skiers dancing in their boots to Eurotrash to be expected in resorts from Alpe d’Huez to Meribel.  Skiers in Val Thorens will be disappointed to discover that you can no longer hop onto the ski lift in shoes and walk across to the bar in the wake of an après ski rave went awry.

Eddie 'the Eagle' Edwards Record Smashed (2015-02-16 17:21:58)

In news that will undoubtedly ruffle Eddie ‘the Eagle’ Edwards’ preened and pristine feathers, the ski jump world record has recently been smashed not once but twice! While we were all glued to our screens watching rank amateur Joey Essex beat it out against such luminaries as Louis Spence, Phil Tuffnell and Mike Tindall in TV’s reality-ski-competition The Jump, the professionals were busy elsewhere breaking real world records.

Ski Lit - It's a Thing (2015-02-13 14:29:40)

We at Interactive Resorts have recently been educated about the wonders of Trip Fiction. It’s a website that gives readers the ability to search for novels set in specific locations, so we’ve decided it’s high time to have a look at the best the site has to offer when you type the Alps into the search bar.

The Undeniable Joys of Spring Skiing (2015-02-09 17:41:54)

With February clicking through at a rate of knots, and March and April looming large on the calendar, winter in the Alps will soon give way to spring. Out with winter's biting winds, blowy gales, low-vis snow-storms and thick layers of thermal ski gear...

Beware the Dangers of Off-Piste Skiing (2015-02-06 17:33:50)

After a shaky start to winter 2014/15, the skies opened and feet of the fresh stuff fell over resorts across the Alps. Now, with February ticking by and about half the season left to enjoy, conditions on the slopes are amazing. But what about conditions off the slopes?

Snowstorm Continues to Sweep Northern Alps (2015-02-02 16:43:28)

A huge snowstorm continues to sweep across the Alps making for some fantastic skiing, particularly in northern resorts. In the largest snowstorm of the 2014/2015 ski season so far, two metres of the white fluffy stuff has fallen in resorts across the Alps, with similar amounts in the Pyrenees. Widespread snowfall over the weekend saw conditions in northern Italy, southern Switzerland and western France improve dramatically.

To rent or to buy? That is the question. (2015-01-30 17:35:43)

Ski equipment has never come cheap; buying the thermals, the inner layers, the outer layers, the socks, the helmet, the goggles, the gloves, the boots, the skis, the poles; it all adds up, until eventually you’ve spend far more than you ever meant to. Obviously, beginner skiers should be thinking about renting what they can.

Virtual Reality Skiing: Control Your Ski Goggles...With Your Eyes (2015-01-26 16:33:23)

The production of the world’s first augmented-reality (AR) ski goggles is well and truly underway – and they’ll be controlled by your eyes. The RideOn Goggles, set to launch later this year, will use orientation sensors, a camera and network connectivity to place a see-through user interface in the centre of your field of vision. Still with us? It basically means you can interact with the weird virtual reality stuff without being visually impaired while you ski or ride. Image courtesy of RideOn's Indigogo campaign page. Wearers of the goggles will be able to do things like message their friends, record videos and view practical information about the weather and altitude in just the blink of the eye.

Hitting the Hill without Breaking the Bank (2015-01-16 17:01:28)

As much as skiing started off as a sport for the wealthy upper classes, these days it’s a little more inclusive. You don’t have to be one of the rich and famous to hit the hills; as long as you’re not expecting to stay in luxury, snow sports are open for everybody.  So, you’re a keen skier but you don’t have the budget to stay in a large chalet with a sauna and a hot tub, how can you keep the cost down when you ski? Well firstly, are you determined to visit one of the big Alpine countries or will you brave the Eastern European resorts for some brilliant budget holidays off the beaten track?

Skiing in a Mixed-Ability Group in France. (2015-01-12 17:32:33)

For such a wonderfully social sport, skiing with a group of friends can sometimes get a little tricky... Rarely is everybody of the same ability level on the snow, and rarely does everybody know the terrain to the same degree.Groups of skiers who set out en masse in the morning with high hopes of a long day together on the snow usually find that by the second or third run, two or three splinter factions have formed.

Snowboard Bindings Just Got Smart (2015-01-09 16:00:11)

Once upon a time, in a snowy land far, far away, snowboard bindings were merely things that held your boots to your board. It was a simple time when nobody complained about the job the bindings were doing so well... But that was then, and this is 2015.

How do the Top Ski Resorts Celebrate New Year’s Eve? (2014-12-24 10:10:59)

With the New Year almost upon us, many of us here in the UK will be paying over the odds to get into pubs and clubs up and down the country. We’ll pay more to get in, more to drink – even more to get home afterwards.

What's in a New Year? (2014-12-22 17:19:37)

New Year’s Eve is one of those nights that people seem to either love, or loath. Personally, I find it’s little more than the same old night out, with higher prices and more people bustling around.

5 of the Best Christmas Ski Resorts in the Alps (2014-12-15 15:06:11)

Christmas in a ski resort is perhaps one of the best ways to spend the festive period. Let’s face it – swapping grey skies and packed commuter trains for snow-blanketed villages and horse-drawn carriage rides is tempting at the best of times.

New James Bond Film Set in Austrian Ski Resorts (2014-12-12 17:12:48)

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past week, it’s highly likely you’ve heard the rampant PR — sorry, we mean announcement — concerning the new James Bond film. News emerged that the latest 007 film has been christened Spectre and will star the impossibly chiselled Daniel Craig in his fourth appearance as the famous secret agent. If you didn’t read past the headlines (or rather the national press didn’t write past that point), you may have missed the news that two of the film’s star locations will be ski resorts in Austria.

Are Google going to bring out a Skiing app? (2014-12-08 16:51:07)

Has the world finally gone mad? Do we really need a Google glass skiing app?

Fun for all the team at Hemel Hempstead (2014-12-05 16:53:22)

We at IR know that there is no better way to spend an afternoon than strapping on some skis or a snowboard, and heading for the slopes. That’s why, when we realised we had some filming to do, we headed straight for the Hemel Hempstead Snow Centre to get some runs in on a Wednesday afternoon.  It might’ve taken us a while to wade through the busy London traffic, but when we arrived at the Snow Centre on that drizzly afternoon, we were all ready to get onto some snow and head for the hill.

A very short history of Snowboarding (2014-12-01 17:28:31)

Ever wondered how we got from the heady days of snurfing to the mountain staple we now know as snowboarding?  Well, for those of you who've always wondered, but never quite had the time to find out, we're about to give you a concise history of the second most popular sport on the mountain.  So, in the years before there was a boarder around every corner, snowboarding evolved from a board in the same shape as a sledge, with a rope at one end to ensure stability.

The Best Music Festivals in the Alps this 2014/2015 Season (2014-11-28 16:34:28)

With the Rock on Snowboard Tour kicking off in Val Thorens this weekend before heading to Avoriaz in December, we’re taking a look at the best music festivals happening in ski resorts across the Alps this winter season. December Other than Rock on Snowboard (where you can catch Shaun White's Band, Bad Things) another early season festival in the Alps is the Rise Festival in Les Deux Alpes. This takes place from 13th to 20th December and is basically a week-long party with an impressive line-up of international bands and DJs. JanuaryThe Mix Mountain Festival hits La Plagne on 26th January and will run for four days.

Aldi Brings Added Value to the Slopes for Winter 2014/2015 (2014-11-21 17:20:43)

The sales staff here at Interactive Resorts HQ work hard to deliver value for money on their clients ski holidays every day, and when it comes to finding ‘the right property at the right price’ (to coin a phrase) they’re outstanding. But Team IR aren’t the only people working hard to make skier’s pounds go further on the slopes – news has trickled in of UK-wide supermarket chain Aldi’s winter ski wear, and the prices are superb!

Three Valleys, Best Lift Infrastructure (2014-11-10 16:29:03)

The bods over at SnowVole have very recently announced that The Three Valleys ski area in France has won the gong in their "Best Lift Infrastructure" category, and we here at Interactive Resorts are pleased as punch! Whether you’re a die-hard fan of the swift, modern lifts in Austrian resorts like Ischgl and St Anton, or you prefer the sedate yet beautifully-placed lift-links taking skiers around the Portes du Soleil, you can’t deny the Three Valleys is world class. With a whopping 600kms of groomed pistes and some of the most incredible back country in Europe to enjoy, the Three Valleys’ myriad gondolas, chairlifts and drags certainly have their work cut out, and with visitor numbers through the roof each year, maintaining and running the lifts is a job of gargantuan proportions. The Williams Party making the most of the superb links and amazing slopes in Meribel last winter. Eurostar Gives Ski Fans More Time on the Mountain (2014-11-07 11:58:16)

Last month, snow fans across the UK rejoiced when Eurostar announced that those heading from London to Geneva by train will have a much easier journey from December onwards, with a new connection in Lille instead of Paris.  The new service will set off from London for the very first time on 14th December and will pretty much see connection times cut in half, reducing overall journey times from London to Geneva by up to an hour. The service will run four times per week, whisking around 900 passengers to and from Geneva’s central station.

Top 5 Most Affordable Ski Chalets in Europe (2014-11-03 16:54:43)

Let’s face it, skiing and snowboarding aren’t known for being particularly affordable sports. In fact, by the time you’ve booked your flights, got your gear and some half-decent insurance plus secured a place to sleep, it’s little wonder that you don’t have much change to keep you in gluhwein for the week.

10 Reasons to visit Avoriaz (2014-10-31 17:17:13)

Unlike some of the bigger resorts, the goliaths of French ski resorts, if you will, Avoriaz doesn’t come with multiple parts built at different altitudes at different times, and a sharp range of building types and sizes. In fact, considering how many French skiers flood in at the weekends it’s really quite a small resort.  And with that, over half of you have stopped paying attention.

It's Almost Time for the Ski & Snowboard Show (2014-10-27 17:36:55)

With the likes of Tignes, Les Deux Alpes and Meribel already reporting the first signs of snow, and some resorts even opening early, it’s safe to say that the winter season is so very nearly upon us. We’ve previously reported a whole host of ways you can get in the mood for pounding the powder this coming season; from the Top 10 Ski Films, to the London Season’s Opening Party, and coming this weekend, the Telegraph Ski & Snowboard Snow in Earl’s Court. Having already executed a successful show in Manchester at the end of last week, the popular annual event is hitting the capital this weekend, packed with live freestyle demonstrations, fashion shows, lessons, après bars, live music, Olympic athletes and 250 top brands. Take a peek at our previous blog for more info on what to expect at the show as here we’ve chosen a few of the brands we recommend you should check out when you’re there. Retro Mountain Be bold, be brave, be retro. Only recently established in 2013, the young team behind Retro Mountain believe they have the answer to the ‘fashion or function’ conflict of many skiers.

10 Reasons Why La Plagne is Worth a Visit. (2014-10-24 17:00:00)

Here at IR, we think that La Plagne is rather unfairly maligned; people seem to remember it as an unattractive concrete jungle, which admittedly, is not too far off in certain parts. That’s not all there is to La Plagne however.

Almost Ablaze: London's Season Opening Party (2014-10-20 17:44:20)

With the annual Freeze Festival taking the year off this season, the guys behind the organisation had been putting all their energies into organising the premier of Almost Ablaze, it’s a ski film, and the London premier will see hundreds of ski bums heading to Bankside Vaults on the 14th November to dance the night away with DJs, Apres Ski Bars and live music all the way through until 2am.  Almost Ablaze is the sort of film that passes in a blur of incredible locations, daring skiing, next level riding and globetrotting glamour. The film has been hailed as film of the year at the 2014 International Freeski Film Festival, with the athletes wired for sound, giving the viewer a more immersive experience.

Interactive Resorts’ Top 10 Best Songs for the Slopes (2014-10-15 10:43:22)

There I was, minding my own business, when into my email in-tray popped The Telegraph’s latest ski and snowboard mail-shot. I rate the Telegraph very highly and find its travel supplements interesting and informative, but when I clicked their article on the best songs for skiing and snowboarding I nearly fell off my chair!

Student Skiing: Pros and Cons? (2014-10-13 17:43:34)

Having seen the recent debate about whether student ski trips are a good or bad thing for the Alps, we’ve decided to give you a full run down of the pros and cons of the student ski trip. We’ve all been in a resort when a host of students descends, they’re noisy, vaguely unfriendly, they clog up a bar like nobody else and they’re always blocking up the terrain park despite not generally being capable of many of the jumps and rails inside.

Snowbombing 2015 Hits Mayrhofen (2014-09-24 11:42:38)

Over recent years, no mountain music festival has captured the imagination of party-loving skiers and boarders the way the Snowbombing Festival has. In a nutshell, Snowbombing is the biggest, the loudest and the most exciting festival of music, ski and dance to take place in the European Alps each year! The annual festival takes place in the Austrian ski resort of Mayrhofen in April, with DJs and musicians of international acclaim joining thousands of revellers for a hedonistic week of skiing and partying that put other mountain music festivals to shame – there really is nothing else quite like it. Headliners for the 2015 festival are yet to be announced, but past acts include festival favourites and big-name talent like The Prodigy, Chase and Status, DJ Carl Cox and The Chemical Brothers - with over sixty acts booked over the entire week, this is just the tip of the iceberg.  Snowbombing Snowbombing will take place over 6th-11th April 2015 this year, and accommodation options are on sale already.

Five of the Coolest Places to Ski in the Alps (2014-09-19 17:35:19)

For powder Andermatt in Switzerland is known around the globe for its freeriding scene, and from a position in the cradle of the Gemsstock, Andermatt gets buffeted by huge storms each winter that leave enormous piles of powder in their wake. 2013 saw a huge development on a scale that has been compared to the Burj al Arab in Dubai amongst others, which catapulted Andermatt out of the relative obscurity that saw it practically unheard of outside of the freeriding community and into the spotlight.

Learning to Ski or Snowboard as an Adult – How Old is Too Old? (2014-09-17 16:54:48)

As the new winter season hurtles towards us, we at Interactive Resorts are taking a moment to think back to the first time we clambered onto a pair of skis or donned a snowboard to make our first tentative moves (and shakes) on the mountain. For some, that was at too tender an age to even remember, for others it’s still a fresh and recent memory of fun, fear and countless falls.

French Ski Hosting Ban Remains in Place. (2014-09-08 17:45:31)

For years now, skiers travelling with UK-based tour operators or chalet companies have enjoyed a wonderful range of different services, with helpful reps on arrival at the airport, talented chalet staff in the kitchen and friendly hosts running free ski guiding services up on the slopes. All that changed last year, when French ski school l’Ecole de Ski Français began taking exception to the number of British seasonaire staff guiding guests around the mountains. A ban on the practise was imposed, and a subsequent appeal by the Brits at the Court of Appeal in Chambery was very recently lost. The debate centres on the ESF and a British company called Le Ski, but Le Ski are far from alone.

How do the Changes to Swiss Employment Law Affect British Seasonnaires? (2014-07-22 10:08:05)

It’s not yet entirely clear exactly how the changes will affect seasonnaires-to-be in the UK, although with the winter season just around the corner chalet companies and tour operators are already gearing up for their recruitment drives. Will there be as much demand for seasonal jobs? Will many of the new intake mind about the drop in jobs in Swiss resorts?

How will the changes to Swiss employment law affect UK skiers? (2014-07-22 10:02:14)

So we know the employment laws in Switzerland are sending UK tour operators running from the hills, but we’re left wondering what impact the changes will have on the tens of thousands of eager seasonnaires that head out to work in the Alps each winter. Will the changes in the law mean there are no job roles to fill in Switzerland?

Changes to Swiss Employment Law Making Life Hard for UK Chalet Companies (2014-07-15 15:53:00)

UK-based tour operators and ski chalet companies working in Switzerland are faced with a pretty unique set of difficulties these days, as news emerges of changes to Swiss employment law. For many years now, UK ski operators have been merrily advertising their chalet host, resort driver, chalet manager and kitchen porter vacancies sticking as close to the UK minimum wage as they can get away with. To sweeten the deal for their prospective employees, lift passes, food, accommodation and travel have traditionally been included in the packages, and many good chalet hosts across the board have been able to survive the season on tips alone! Folklore Festival in Zermat - Copyright: Kurt Mueller All that is set to change in Switzerland, though, as the country introduces an amendment to its employment laws.

Summer Skiing (2014-06-24 11:32:34)

While this may be true in many resorts across Europe – certainly those with no summer sports to offer –there are a few high-altitude resorts where summer skiing is possible from June to September, and the atmosphere is fantastic!

The low fare airline, Monarch, has announced that it will be offering flights to some of the most popular ski destinations this winter. This is great news as it will give ski tourists more choice of airport and a bigger chance to snap up a bargain flight. Monarch will be flying to Grenoble, Friedrichshafen and Munich from December until Easter, specifically for the winter sport trade.

The Ischgl Blog of Blogs (2012-05-03 10:21:51)

You may have heard that we went to Ischgl for our end of season trip. The trip was so much fun that it has spawned many blogs paying tribute to it.

La Plagne Improvements (2012-04-30 14:34:24)

The resort of La Plagne is making some welcome improvements for 2012/13. The lift operators will be focusing their attention on the Plagne Centre area.

Interactive Resorts Trip to Ischgl (2012-04-26 14:48:41)

Well, that was the season that was. It started, as usual these days, with a lot of writer-types in various publications mouthing off about the lack of snow (in mid-November) then, to our joy, the Alps raised two defiant fingers to the lot of them and dumped fresh powder all over the place.

A History of snowboarding in 2 minutes (2012-04-24 09:33:03)

End of season review 2011/12 (2012-04-13 12:53:39)

Way back in November UK news papers were awash with news of the poor snow conditions in the European Alps. Reports in the Daily Mail and the Sun managed to cause uproar within the ski community not just for peddling horror stories about potentially ruined holidays, but also for ill-informed journalism. As we all know, the scaremongering in the press was short lived and what has been called an epic season shortly followed.

A Right Royal Ski Holiday (2012-03-30 10:56:29)

Prince William and Princess Kate have been rumoured to be on a ski holiday in the alpine resort of Meribel this week. After a lot of hard work we have tracked down some "exclusive" photos of their trip.

Will the Easter Bunny find your chalet and other questions? (2012-03-27 16:30:35)

Are you worried that the Easter Bunny won’t be able to find your chalet in the Alps? Should you take your own eggs?

Mobile Roaming in Europe (2012-03-16 13:13:18)

EU roaming rules have now made the cost of making and receiving calls when abroad in the EU 73% cheaper than in 2005.  But before you set off for your ski holiday, remember that phoning, texting and surfing the web can still be a costly business! On average Brits return from their ski holiday with a bill of about £150 and most don’t even check the roaming charges before they go.

Tignes Winter X Games 2012 (2012-03-01 09:59:03)

This year is set to be bigger and better than ever before! Known as the ‘Olympic Games of freestyle’, the Winter X Games is taking place in famous French resort of Tignes from March 14th -16th 2012.

Reasons to Book Your 2012/13 Chalet Holiday Early. (2012-02-23 16:43:32)

With all the last minute ski deals that kick in once December and January roll around, you’d be forgiven for thinking that leaving it late to book your ski trip is the way to play it. If you have a group of 2, 4 or maybe even 6 and you can fly from Gatwick, then the last minute market is the best place to focus your attentions.

The Family Ski Holiday - A Guide (2011-09-06 09:31:08)

Anyone who has ever planned and booked a family ski holiday will tell you it’s not an easy game. Booking the annual boys’ trip is easy...

End of the Season - Val d'Isere Beckons! (2011-04-12 13:16:30)

It's been a funny old season in the ski industry this year. Early season snow was excellent and peak week bookings strong; all the signs pointed to another season of superb ski conditions and a bouyant industry.

Luxury Skiing in Verbier (2011-04-04 14:23:12)

Verbier and high end luxury go hand in hand; few resorts offer more luxury chalets than Verbier and for years it has been the winter playground for the world’s rich and famous. Anyone who is anyone, from pop stars to royalty, flock to what is one of the world’s top ski destinations every season, and so the opening of a new luxury chalet will inevitably cause a stir.

Brand New Super-Tarentaise Gondola Plans Released (2011-04-01 08:25:21)

A new lift development costing almost 200 million Euros and linking the major ski areas of the Tarentaise was unveiled yesterday to widespread excitement among the ski industry. The new gondola, named the "Super-Tarentaise" will start in Le Praz (Courchevel 1300) and cross the Bozel Valley to La Plagne, before rising above the Bellecote Glacier, over to Les Arcs and finally liaising with Tignes via the spectacular Aiguille Rouge peak.

Fresh Snow Across the Alps (2011-02-16 15:47:38)

It's been a while. According to an old pal who still lives in Chamonix and posted on facebook this morning, it's been 36 days.

Skiing off the Beaten Track (2011-02-15 17:56:42)

So you think you know everything there is to know about skiing in Europe? Done the Three Valleys?

Matt's Morzine Ski Weekend (2011-02-01 11:09:49)

I was recently offered the opportunity to head out to Morzine (due mostly to a last minute ski deal which I was lucky enough to find), to sample the resort and the fantastic chalet Amis. I naturally jumped at the chance.

Flora and Mike Ski the Three Valleys (2011-01-27 11:56:53)

For early season snow and bluebird skies most people wouldn’t dream of mentioning Meribel. At 1400 metres, it doesn't have the makings for good early conditions.

What is Alpine Skiing? (2011-01-26 09:59:00)

Skiing is dated back to pre-historic times. It is a part of the history of Sami and Nordic people in which skiing was a part of their military manoeuvres, hunting and used as practical means of transportation.

The Great Interactive Resorts Pizza Hustle (2011-01-25 13:20:56)

At Interactive Resorts, we're not just focused on last minute ski holidays and catered ski chalets. We also love pizza, especially down in our IT department (AKA the dungeon).

Club Med - All Inclusive Ski Holidays have never been so good! (2011-01-24 17:24:12)

As far as business models go for ski companies, you have to go an awfully long way to beat the example set by Club Med, as I found out in Les Arcs last week. I received an invitation to stay for 4 nights in the 4 star Hotel Club Med Peisey Vallandry to see what all the fuss is about, and I have nothing but good things to say! We flew out from Heathrow Terminal 1 with Swissair and the transfer coach whisked us to resort.

3 amazing ski resorts for 2012 (2011-01-06 12:09:01)

Travellers that are considering making plans for a 2012 ski trip may wonder where the best action on the slopes will be this season. Annually, hundreds of resorts compete for the attention of avid skiers, but only a few are truly top-notch places that are certain to provide the ultimate vacation, thus qualifying as one of the best.

A 5 Star Holiday in Val d'Isere (2010-12-22 11:14:30)

Mention early season skiing and a few resorts always spring to mind. For the best early season snow record, some of the best chalets and service in the Alps and a generally superb time, Val d'Isere is close to unbeatable.

An Early Season Ski Weekend in St Anton (2010-12-10 17:42:15)

St Anton – not the highest resort in the Alps and thus not the natural choice for a pre-season ski weekend away, right? Wrong.

Ski Sales Staff Wanted! (2010-12-10 12:01:06)

The history of Val Thorens in the Three Valleys (2010-08-06 14:47:03)

From St Martin de Belleville through De Bettaix and Les Menuires all the way up to the breathtaking heights of Val Thorens nestled at 2300m above sea level, the Val Thorens Valley and its neighbouring resorts of Meribel and Courchevel make up Europe’s largest and most popular ski area. So how did it all come about…?In the 1960s the potential of Val Thorens to be transformed from a small mountain village into a location for a purpose built ski area was noted.

The surprisingly interesting history of La Plagne (2010-08-02 16:04:48)

La Plagne is one of several “mega-resorts” in the northern Tarentaise area of France. La Plagne is made up of 10 different villages with each offering a completely different ambiance.

Eurostar to the Alps on sale this morning (2010-07-13 11:04:00)

Although a majority of our clients tend to book a package with flights and transfers included, a growing number now make their own travel arrangements to the Alps and the direct Eurostar services to the Tarentaise are always very popular indeed. This year there will be the usual two direct services, one leaving London St Pancras on Friday evenings, arriving in the Alps early on Saturday morning, and one leaving on Saturday mornings which arrives on Saturday afternoon.

Morzine - A Brief History (2010-07-12 16:05:43)

The polar opposite of 1970s tower-block resorts like Tignes and La Plagne, the beautiful, charming ski resort of Morzine began life as far back as 1090. The area was one of only two crossing-points over the river Dranse and as such was of great geographical importance. Around the start of the 12th century, Cistercian monks began arriving in the area of St Jean d’Aulps on pilgrimage from other areas in France, most notably Dijon.

The History of Zermatt in Switzerland (2010-07-07 15:18:41)

Today, Zermatt is one of the top ski resorts in Europe, if not the world, but how did it all begin? Has Zermatt always been a popular ski destination for the rich and famous, or has this only developed in recent times?

A Brief history of Courchevel, France (2010-06-29 10:38:36)

Courchevel in France is one of Europe’s premier ski resorts, sitting at 1850 metres above sea level and forming part of the Three Valleys, the world’s largest fully linked ski area. Courchevel is split into 4 villages, each named after their altitudes.

Keswick Beer Festival Weekend 2010 (2010-06-09 15:03:33)

For us at Interactive Resorts, the annual Keswick Beer Festival is as much a part of the job as sending out booking confirmations and updating chalet availability. Last year’s trip set a high water mark for Cumbrian shenanigans which we knew would be hard to beat, but things began well with the decision to take the train instead of a coach.

Holly's view of skiing in Val Thorens (2010-05-13 15:04:40)

Wednesday 14th April: Volcano erupts in Iceland.Flight departure time to Val Thorens: 05:50 Saturday 17th April.Actual Coach departure: 12:45 Saturday 17th April.Arrival time in Resort 10:00 Sunday 18th April.Carrying on from Mr. David Froom’s superb depiction of the week that was…..  Approximately 1179 miles of land and sea separate London from Iceland, so who would have ever thought that one volcano could cause so much disruption?

Spring Skiing in Banff (2010-05-07 09:19:19)

My spring ski holiday to Canada may not have been on the same scale as Holly’s Christmas trip, but it certainly makes me agree that everyone should go to Canada at least once in a lifetime. It is a different experience to skiing in Europe but an exciting one too!I decided to base my trip in March in and around Banff.

The Interactive Resorts Ski Trip to Val Thorens (2010-05-05 16:12:59)

The build-up was big, top billing in the office for weeks before we were due to leave. Pre-departure was littered with nerve jangling worries over how we'd get there, and whether we'd even be able to.

Skiing in Canada - The One and Only (2010-04-27 15:59:55)

Coming from NZ where our Christmas normally consists of shorts and sandals, BBQs and camping, sunshine and beaches, a white Christmas is something of a novelty. You can only imagine my delight at being told in early 2009 that the family Christmas was to be held in Canada! BA’s announcement of their strike over the festive period nearly threw a massive spanner in the works.

Family Skiing Holiday Part II - Useful Tips (2010-04-15 12:11:30)

Continuing on from Rupert's family ski holiday in Alpe d'Huez, we've put together a series of useful tips to help you make the most of yours.1. Ski lessons in Alpe d’HuezIn advance, we booked ski lessons for the kids for the start of the week; we chose small group private lessons for the kids through British Masterclass, who turned out to be one of the best ski schools we’ve come across.

Our Family Ski Holiday (2010-04-15 09:18:06)

This year, our family ski holiday consisted of a group of 9 adults and 7 children aged from 2 to 7 years old. The party contained three non-skiing adults (Grandma and Aunties!) who, between them, acted as ‘nannies’ - looking after the kids when they weren’t skiing and giving the chance for the skiing adults to occasionally enjoy some ‘kid-free’ runs. Our skiing abilities were mixed; the adults' ability ranged from beginners through to advanced, the younger members had either never skied or had up to 4 weeks' skiing under their belts. With this in mind we were looking for somewhere offering good facilities and activities, both in the chalet and in the resort, that the non-skiers could enjoy too.  As our holiday was in mid March we were looking for somewhere with a good snow record but with (fingers crossed!) a bit of sunshine – always beneficial in helping the younger children keep warm when on the lifts.

Val Thorens 2010 - 4 days and counting (2010-04-13 13:07:09)

Here we are, another season has come and almost gone and this Saturday the Interactive Resorts crew are heading back to the mountains for one last week of skiing, sunshine, fun and games before summer. The last three years of the official company trip have all been to Val d'Isere but this year promises to be a complete change as we're heading to Europe's highest resort of Val Thorens! The first Interactive Resorts end of season trip was in 2007 to the Chalet Cherrier in Val d'Isere.

A week skiing in Meribel (2010-04-12 14:32:38)

Booking my personal ski holiday this year was going to be a challenge; it was a mixed ability (complete beginner to expert), mixed sex (school mates and girlfriend!), group of people all on a budget and looking for plenty of evening entertainment. Meribel was chosen as the destination.Booking my personal ski holiday this year was going to be a challenge; it was a mixed ability (complete beginner to expert), mixed sex (school mates and girlfriend!), group of people all on a budget and looking for plenty of evening entertainment.

Wanted: Passionate Skiers and Boarders (2010-04-08 13:01:54)

Do you love skiing or boarding? Could talk about ski holidays all day?

Chalets in Zermatt reviewed (2010-04-06 11:20:56)

Having spent a couple of years working in chalet holiday sales, I’ve had the good fortune to stay in some amazing chalets....the Bellevarde Lodges in Val D’Isere – ski in/out with hot tubs on the balcony, and the Taiga Lodge in Meribel with its cinema rooms being previous favourites.  Fabulous though these are, they don’t really come close to the accommodation I’ve just stayed in on a recent trip to Zermatt. Arriving in the resort via the train from Täsch, we were greeted by the sight of the mighty Matterhorn and a picture perfect Swiss village just below it.  As the little electro-taxi made its way up to Petit Village (known as Zermatt’s satellite village for its spectacular views), I had a feeling we’d be in for a treat.  Soft lightings, with pale wooden furnishings, massive mirrors and subtle under-floor heating welcomed us into the Chalet Grace – a fresh, contemporary and utterly gorgeous chalet in every possible way.  Afternoon tea was laid out waiting for us – and as we reclined in the massive sofas with fur throws, we tucked into warm white chocolate & brandy cupcakes with rounds of smoked salmon & goats cheese sandwiches.....just what the doctor ordered after a long day of travelling!  Matt and Jen, our hosts  took some time out to show us around and great feature after great feature was pointed out -  pool room, cinema room, outdoor hot tub, sauna, Pilates studio.  Little wonder then that we found it difficult to leave the chalet each night after a four course dinner– especially with the open bar, stocked with everything from Cardinal lager to Perrier Jouët Champagne!Whilst it was easy to want to spend every second of our time in Zermatt in the Grace, the aim of our mission there was to check out a range of chalets in the resort, so this we set off to do on the second day of our visit.  Whilst Zermatt is by no means a resort for people on a budget, we did manage to see some of the more cost effective options that are there.  If it’s all about location, then you can’t really go wrong with the 16 person Chalet Mazot – right in the centre of town and a short walk from the Sunnega lifts.  It doesn’t have a living room, but who needs a living room when you have bars like Vernissage round the corner! The steep hill that winds up behind the Mazot, leads up to the Aeschhorn chalets; two wonderfully kitsch and traditional apartments, each sleeping 6 with quirky attributes such as the murals on the bedroom walls of mountain scenery.

Skiing Chamonix on and off piste (2010-04-01 11:59:20)

I’ve just returned from an excellent stay at the Chalet Grands Montets in Chamonix.  Newly finished, this chalet has been completely rebuilt from a shell that dates back to the 1940s.

The wonderful resort of Hetteyi (2010-04-01 10:54:00)

This small resort nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas, the resort offers skiing so completely different to what most of us have experienced. Not only is the setting quite spectacular but the culture is very different.

A week's Ski Holiday in Zermatt and Verbier (2010-03-25 12:04:41)

Having worked in the ski industry since 2004, I've seen a lot of resorts. In fact, until last week there were only 2 major resorts in our programme that I had never visited.

Nightlife and skiing in St Anton (2010-03-23 10:42:28)

Badly cooked sausages, Euro Pop, lederhosen and dodgy dancing. Until early January this year, that was about the extent of my knowledge of Austria.

BA cabin crew strike (2010-03-12 11:23:29)

We are extremely disappointed that Unite, the union that represents the majority of British Airways (BA) cabin crew, has announced that it intends to take strike action. We are currently considering our response to this strike threat and what action we will need to take to minimise disruption. All our flights are operating normally at the moment. We will be updating this page with further details as soon as it is available.

Skiing in Chamonix (2010-03-10 12:18:59)

Chamonix. The name itself rings all the superlatives; the highest lift, the longest off-piste run and the most awe inspiring views the Alps have to offer.

Simon Seeks - A new website dedicated to passionate travellers (2010-03-05 12:48:55)

If you’re part of the Travellers and Bloggers community, you’ve probably heard about the new travel website Simonseeks.com from the entrepreneur Simon Nixon. In one of their recent blog posts, Interactive Resorts has been recommended as a great site to visit when trying to find your perfect skiing holiday. In June 2009, Simon launched this new site which aims to give an opportunity to everyone interested in writing holiday reviews about their trips, a chance to make money from it.

March Festivals in Meribel (2010-03-03 12:13:48)

Spring skiing has always had its advantages – the days are longer, the lifts are open later, the snow is still good and the temperatures are warm enough to sit outside at the end of the day enjoying a cold beer or a vin chaud! This season the resort of Meribel is providing extra incentives for skiing at this time of year by hosting not one, but two festival extravaganzas!

Industrial action on both sides of the Channel (2010-02-24 12:06:42)

We are aware that there is an air traffic control strike currently taking place in France which began yesterday (23rd February) and is scheduled to finish on Saturday 27th February. At this moment we have received no information from any of our tour operators or airlines about how this action may affect any holidays due to depart on Saturday or Sunday. We are also aware that British Airways staff may strike at some stage over the Easter break.

Alpe d'Huez and Les 2 Alpes – Skiing Affordability Realised! (2010-02-18 11:39:05)

On hearing my first ski trip of the season would be to Alpe d’Huez and Les Deux Alpes my feelings were mixed. On the one hand it meant seeing two resorts and a whole range of chalets that I did not know much about, on the other hand, would they live up to the demanding standards set by the Three Valleys and Espace Killy regions?Setting off from London before the sun had even risen was a shock to the system but it meant landing in Lyon and picking up the hire car with most of the day still to go.

Luxury ski holiday in St Anton (2010-02-15 14:03:44)

Working at the sales end of the ski industry, you always come across chalets that make you think “I wish I could stay there”, so when the opportunity arose for several friends and I to stay in one such chalet, we naturally grabbed it with both hands. Chalet Seeberger has long been on my hit list for several reasons:The chalet is as central as you could possibly want. The catering is of a very high standard. The wines served would be good enough to grace a quality restaurant. The chalet does not come with flights and transfers included in the price so we pounced on some very good value Easyjet Gatwick to Innsbruck flights and hopped on the train up to resort.

Skiing in La Rosière: A Hidden Gem (2010-02-11 10:49:33)

One of the lesser known resorts of the Tarentaise region, La Rosière truly is a gem waiting to be discovered. Some people are too quick to dismiss this resort as too small, too quiet and too family orientated but three colleagues from the London office and I spent the opening weekend of the season discovering what this resort really has to offer.

Les Portes du Soleil, Val d'Isere, Verbier and a lot of motorway! (2010-02-09 15:41:48)

Working for a ski company means that familiarisation trips out to resort and the chalets are part and parcel of the job. Perk yes, but absolutely necessary!

Powder skiing in Val d'Isere (2010-02-05 17:07:58)

Looking for a last minute deal can be risky business because there comes a point when prices don’t go any lower and holidays just get sold. If like our group you were dead set on going to a specific resort then having not got anything sorted by Thursday for a holiday intended to start on Saturday is perhaps a little foolish.

Skiing in Verbier, a trip to remember! (2010-02-03 15:03:09)

First things first, myself and my fellow travelling compadres needed to catch the red eye out of Gatwick into Geneva, from where we could catch the train to Le Chable (2.5 hrs) at the foot of the mountain on which Verbier is perched. As you would expect, the Swiss trains run like clockwork and with one quick change at Martigny we were there.

Luxury chalets in Val d'Isere - Harriet's week of pampering (2010-02-01 18:54:12)

The chalets I have just visited are 4 of our most luxurious chalets and a boutique hotel in Val d’Isere in the Legettaz area. They are all clustered together and built in the traditional Savoyarde style.  The owner helped design all of the chalets and I can honestly say they are absolutely beautiful, all very different in style with something to suit everyone. Even though I stayed in Chalet Le Kilimanjaro myself (with one of the best views of Val from the living room) my favourite was the Chalet Mistral.

4 exercises to improve your fitness for skiing (2009-12-15 13:51:46)

The ski season is upon us. It is a fact that the fitter you are the more you will enjoy and get the most out of your time on the piste, no matter what your level.

BA industrial action 22nd December to 2nd January (2009-12-14 17:30:57)

Just a very quick post for anyone who thinks they may be affected by the industrial action at BA that has been announced this afternoon. If you missed the news, BA cabin crew have voted to go on strike from 22nd December until 2nd January in a move that is widely thought will bring chaos to anyone travelling with BA over that period.Only around 5% of our customers booked to travel during that period are booked on BA flights, and all of those are charter flights.

European Ski Resort Opening Dates 2009-10 (2009-12-03 15:36:03)

A week later, and with superb snow for sure, the final large ski areas will get going. Les Arcs/La Plagne start on 12th December, Avoriaz will be startign on the same day as well as Zinal and Grimentz in Switzerland. The final stragglers will be officially open from 19th December.

Life at Interactive Resorts (2009-12-01 09:49:32)

Few office workers spend their working life chatting about one of the things they love the most. Few get to spend their days surrounded by like-minded friends, banter abounding, helping their clients into the holidays they want.

Espace Killy: 3 days and counting! (2009-11-25 12:39:23)

Here we are, another year has passed and another ski season is about to kick off. Forget all those excited blogs and tweets in October about new snow in Europe and a few resorts in the States opening early, we're now getting ready for the real snow.

Road Trip, anyone? (2009-11-16 17:25:56)

So, we’ve established that travelling to resort by train is fun and surprisingly efficient. If you really must, then fly, But what about the third way, the Road Trip?

New chairlift in La Plagne (2009-11-03 12:30:35)

Plagne 1800 has a new chairlift out of the village: the new Melezes chairlift which runs from the ESF meeting point to Plagne Centre. This then connects to another new chairlift - the Bergerie, arriving at 2184m just above Plagne Villages, which gives access to Plagne Centre and Plagne Bellecote, making Plagne 1800 a much more convenient option for beginners. For more info checkout our La Plagne resort details or see our collection of La Plagne Chalets.

South West London - The centre of the UK ski industry (2009-10-21 15:40:39)

For those in the know, South-West London has always been the heart of the UK ski industry. Obviously none of the big resorts are located here; in fact you’d be hard pushed to spot a single snowflake over winter.

Snow is falling - Bring on the new season! (2009-10-07 17:08:01)

The first snows of the new season have begun to fall across the northern hemisphere and one resort in North America has already opened for the winter season. Loveland, Colorado became the first non-glacier resort to open this morning. The first snows of the new season have begun to fall across the Northern hemisphere and one resort in North America has already opened for the winter season.

Weekending by Rail (2009-09-18 18:34:51)

So as we’ve already established, I’m a convert to the train. Having always hated flying, my first attempt to get out to the Alps by rail went so well that I vowed never again to fly where the train was possible.

3 Peaks Challenge for Cancer Research (2009-08-27 11:22:47)

While the rest of Interactive Resorts were celebrating the company's 5th birthday with a boat trip down the River Thames I set off on my epic journey. The challenge was to complete the 3 Peaks in 24 hours and raise money for Cancer research in the process.Well, to sum it up I completed the 3 peak challenge in less than 24 hours, no thanks to driving licence issues, horrendously cold and foggy weather conditions, traffic jams and mini bus breakdowns.

Train to Courchevel for me (2009-08-14 14:54:02)

Following on from Alex’s interesting blog about the relative merits of train versus plane, I though I’d add my own (heavily biased) view. A couple of seasons ago I booked a last minute deal in Courchevel 1550 at the hotel Chanrossa.

Train or Plane? (2009-08-06 09:33:13)

‘We’re sorry to announce that the 13:25 flight to London Gatwick is delayed”…. The all too familiar voiceover that greeted us on arrival at Chambery airport last March - our return leg home delayed by reasons best known to Monarch and Monarch alone.

The Tour hits the mountains (2009-07-16 12:25:47)

You’d be forgiven for thinking that the Alps are a little quiet during the long summer months, locals just whiling away the lazy days waiting for the new snowfall and the hustle and bustle of winter to kick in again in November.
